SAP DB & MySQL MaxDB
Our Philosophy
As computing professionals, I and my associates at AEI have been supporters of OpenSource initiatives from their inception. From a technological standpoint I view programming and algorithmic development as both a science and an art form.
OpenSource and the DBMS Market Today
The DBMS market to date has been a race to offer all the features that we require in a DBMS. There had been a gap between what we required and what was available. Arguably, DBMS technology has reached a saturation level. What this means is there is no real "feature benefit" between competing DBMS.
There is going to be a shift in the DBMS market. OpenSource products, such as MySQL, are becoming competitive with the more established DBMS.
The proliferation of OpenSource DBMS alternatives also means we are no longer bound to a specific supported platform. The OS matters less and less. Linux vs Windows may be an important issue for Microsoft, but it should not be an issue for the CIO.
SAP DB and MaxDB
SAP DB is SAP's strategic DBMS OpenSource offering.
