Application Enhancements Inc. has been rolling out Linux solutions for over 5 years. We started by using Linux to replace expensive, proprietary UNIX solutions (HP, Sun, SCO) in our own office. Soon, we were applying Linux and Open Source technologies to our client's problems, helping them save money and improve their systems.

Linux Lowers Total Cost of Ownership

It is our experience that Linux actually produces a lower total cost of ownership. Why? Two reasons:

1. Linux frees you and your staff from administrative and management tasks that proprietary systems force on you. Stop spending time and money on things like: License Management, Litigation Threats, Forced Upgrades, Forced Software, Forced License Changes, Client Access Licenses (CALs), Unneeded Servers and Unneeded Administrators. With Linux, you are in complete control.
2. Linux simply costs less. Linux can be deployed for free. It can be copied for free and it can be changed in any way you like - for free.

Linux Solutions

Linux grew up on the Internet. It was also a catalyst for other Open Source projects. Today, some of the highest quality software is available for free on Linux. Before calling up your vendor, think of using Linux to provide:

• File & Print Sharing for Windows. Linux includes the Samba file and print sharing service for Microsoft clients. Samba is free, stable, reliable and compatible with all Windows desktop operating systems.
• E-Mail. Linux runs SendMail, the same software that handles an estimated 75% of all Internet e-mail. And, it supports popular desktop client software including OutLook.
• Web Services. The most popular web server on the Internet is Apache. Apache will also do web proxies eliminating the need for proprietary web proxy servers.
• Fire Walls. Don't buy Checkpoint, PIX or FireBox, use Linux's NetFilter instead. It's fast, free, secure and it will keep your network safe from intruders.
• Virtual Private Networks. Linux uses the Free Secure Wide Area Network (FreeSWAN) VPN package to provide secure point-to-point connectivity over public networks. It's even compatible with Microsoft's VPN Client for Windows!
• Database Servers. Recent benchmarks have measured the performance of the MySQL database as matching or exceeding Oracle or SQL Server.
• Routers. A PC with two or more NICs running Linux can be a very capable router. It talks popular routing protocols and can forward more packets per second than all but the largest proprietary systems.
• Desk Tops. Linux comes with free software for most desktop applications including an Office Suite, a highly rated Web Browser, desk accessories, games, a CD player and much, much more.
